UNC announces basketball coach Roy Williams is retiring after 33 seasons
Roy Williams, who led North Carolina to three NCAA titles in 33 seasons as a college basketball coach, is retiring, according to a release from the school Thursday.
Williams, a Marion, N.C.
native, spent the last 18 seasons at UNC, winning national titles in 2005, 2009 and 2017 while posting a record of 485-163. He previously coached the Kansas Jayhawks for 15 seasons, and is the only coach in NCAA history to win 400 games at two different schools.
According to the release, Williams will make his official during a 4 p.m.
news conference at the Dean Smith Center and on Roy Williams Court.

Williams, a 1972 UNC grad, ranks third all-time among Division I coaches with 903 wins, and was inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.
